This Tahoe fireplace was designed to balance architectural presence with strict build-out limitations. By combining full-depth stone with expertly executed thin veneer, we were able to achieve the mass, texture, and authenticity of a traditional masonry fireplace while carefully controlling depth and weight.

The living room fireplace is where families gather and memories are passed down through generations. For this project, our goal was to create an irreplaceable centerpiece—one that grounds the home and will stand the test of time

For this project, we were presented with several key challenges. The vision was to create a fully wrapped, full-thickness stone surround extending from floor to ceiling. Due to existing build limitations, this goal required a creative approach—particularly along a narrow adjoining hallway—which ultimately presented an exciting opportunity for innovation.

Other key details we accounted for included allowing for future flooring to be installed beneath the finished masonry. As part of our standard operating procedure, we installed control boards matched precisely to the thickness of the proposed flooring to ensure a seamless final transition.

Choosing the right hearth was essential to creating an unforgettable centerpiece. The client’s vision included lowering the existing hearth, which required added care in both design and finish selection. Due to the reduced height, we recommended a softened bullnose edge instead of a traditional chiseled profile to minimize hazards while preserving a refined look.

Our client gave us full creative freedom on this project, which we embraced by designing a prominent keystone set 3/8" proud of the veneer plane. This subtle projection adds depth, character, and a refined touch of craftsmanship to the overall design.

Precision at the corners is critical in masonry. Jack lines were run on all corners of this project to ensure perfectly plumb, true edges from floor to ceiling. Strong, well-defined corners not only establish structural accuracy but also anchor the entire layout, allowing the surrounding stonework to flow naturally and maintain visual balance throughout the design.
