When Zak Quick Construction approached us, they presented a fireplace concept intended to be a grand centerpiece in a tall, vaulted great room. During early design meetings, we recommended framing the fireplace with returns to add depth and architectural presence rather than leaving it flat.

Zak then shared the client’s vision, which centered on several key design elements. One of the most important was a 2” granite hearth set low to the floor, creating a clean, modern profile while grounding the fireplace and reinforcing strong horizontal lines.

lso wanted a mantel that made a bold statement while maintaining a modern look. A 600-pound solid stone mantel was set low enough to accommodate a swiveling TV mount, allowing for comfortable viewing without detracting from the fireplace’s presence.

After meeting with the clients and reviewing their color palette, every stone was selected and placed with intent. Balance of color, size, and shape was carefully maintained, with oxidized stones reintroduced throughout to ensure continuity and natural movement.
